Martin Luther

Martin Luther

On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther posted what is known as the 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany.
For those of us that affirm the truth of being made right with God by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, this event was the very “beachhead” in the battle to recover this great doctrine that had been lost and obscured for hundreds of years.
Another important doctrine that was recovered during the reformation was the doctrine that the Scriptures alone have authority over the church. The teaching of the day was that the Church was the source from which the Scriptures drew their authority.  Martin Luther taught that Jesus governs his church through his word.
John Piper has written a short biography on Martin Luther (less than 50 pages!) that reminds us of the importance of this day in our own spiritual history and the importance of the Scriptures in the life of the church.
